Each property (or lot) in Quebec has a cadastral number (numéro de lot). This is a unique number that identifies the property. For instance, below you can see a section of Montreal and the lot numbers for the properties in that area. Each of these numbers is a cadastral number.

If you know the cadastral number for a property, you can use it to look up information about the property such as ownership history, mortgages or liens, and legal charges or easements in the Quebec Land Register.
